How To Send MOBI Files To Your Kindle, Kindle Fire, or Kindle App

NOTE: You will generally need to use a computer, rather than a tablet like an iPad or Kindle Fire, to process the download file. You’ll be able to read the downloaded book on any device once you’ve completed the steps below.

Step 1: Download the MOBI file to your computer

MOBI is the name of the ebook file format used by Kindle devices and apps. You will typically obtain access to a MOBI file through one of two methods.

– A file attachment
If your MOBI file is attached to an email, you can typically right-click on the file attachment image and get a list of options. One of those options will involve downloading the file to your computer, typically to a pre-defined Downloads folder.

– A download link
Click on the link to begin the file download. As with attachments, downloads are generally saved to a pre-defined Downloads folder.

Step 2: Locate the file on your computer

If you have a Windows-based computer, look in your Downloads folder. You should see a MOBI file. If you have a large number of files in your Downloads folder, sort the files by date so that the most recent date appears first. You’ll need to ensure you know where the MOBI file is stored on your computer before you can proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Follow the instructions on Amazon’s “Send To Kindle” page.

Amazon provides a number of approaches to transfer MOBI files to your Kindle. The main page is here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle

My preferred approach is using email. Each Kindle user has an assigned email address ending in “@kindle.com”, and you can transfer MOBI files and other documents to the Kindle by sending an email with the desired file attached. Specific instructions for locating your @kindle.com email address may be found on Amazon’s web site here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/email

Step 4: Read and enjoy your book!

The transfer can take 5-10 minutes, depending upon the speed of your computer and Kindle app/device Internet speeds. You may need to re-sync your device. Once you see the new book, you can read it in your app or on your Kindle device like any other book.

Still having problems?

Note: This offer only applies in situations where you’ve received a direct email from me with a download link or file attachment. If you have received a MOBI file from another author or via other sources, I will not assist.

(1) Identify your Kindle device (or app) email address. Instructions may be found on this page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/email

(2) From the same page, you’ll need to add me to your Approved Personal Document Email List. Use the email address I used to send you the original download link or MOBI file attachment.

(3) Reply to my email with the original download link or MOBI file attachment. Let me know you’ve followed the process above without success and include your Kindle device email address. I’ll then directly email the MOBI file to your Kindle app or device. Please be certain that you do not email me until my address is added to the approved list or the transfer won’t work.

If the above does not work I am unfortunately not able to provide additional assistance.
